Last weekend the Rochester Museum & Science Center hosted the Genesee Region Orchid Society Show! As a new & very proud owner of a beautiful orchid, that I received as special gift, I decided to attend the show and see what I could learn…not to mention ogle! Once you own one and realize how amazing of a plant they are you become a bit hooked!
The show isn’t overwhelmingly large thus allowing you to linger at the orchid displays. Prize ribbons marked the top orchids in different categories but in my mind each and every one of the orchids were stunning! They have eye catching displays that portray the orchids natural habitat- the tropical forest!
There were informative presentations on planting orchids and such so it was a great place to learn or expand your knowledge.
After exploring the displays we headed downstairs where there were multiple orchid vendors- a couple local ones and even Kelley’s Korner Orchid Supplies who were extremely helpful in guiding me towards the proper potting media and fertilizer (http://www.kkorchid.com/).
All in all it was a great Sunday outing with orchids galore!
